How To Take Advantage Of The Hidden Job Market
How to take advantage of the hidden job market This is not your ordinary career site. I help the corporate worker who toils away in the company cubicle make career transitions. You want to do your job well, following all the rules -- . The career transitions where I can help you center on three critical career areas: How to land a job, succeed in a job, and build employment security. Top 10 Posts on Categories The hidden job market can be defined as people getting jobs when those jobs have never been posted for employees or people outside the company to see. Some see that market as a myth; others effectively exploit it. Those that exploit it will note that itâs not a myth, thank-you-very-much. Letâs say the hidden job market exists â" how do you get into this market for a job? To take advantage of the hidden job market, there are three pre-requisites. First, you need a good set of job skills for the work that you do. To qualify for any job, hidden or not, job skills are the currency of exchange between you and the employer â" your job skills help the employer reach business goals and, in exchange, you have a job that pays you money and benefits. The second pre-requisite you need is performance on the job. You meet your goals. Your work helps managers reach their business goals. You do all those things talked about in job descriptions â" works in a fast-paced environment, plays well in the sandbox, works through difficult situations. You produce business results (yes, I said that again â" meeting goals is critical). Unless you have the job skills to do the work AND have the job performance to prove it, the hidden job market will continue hiding. Why? Because having job skills and good performance means you have a reputation of producing good work. Without this reputation for producing good work, it is difficult for people to think of you as a person to recommend for a position or to be thought of to be appointed to a position. The final pre-requisite is having a business network. A business network is a group of people you associate and work with as part of your career. These could be people at your current place of work (especially if it is a large corporation) and from other companies or professional associations. You can have skills, perform at work, but without this business network, there would be few people to know about your work and how you could help others achieve business goals. Once you have these pre-requisites, the key to accessing the hidden job market is working with your business network. You help people in your network when they need help, offer a safe place to vent, and help them connect with the people you know who could help them. Then, when you are looking for something new, you have trust built with people. When it comes time for you to make a change, letting your business network know about what type of work you are looking to do starts a virtuous cycle. Your business network knows you have the skills and job performance. Plus they know that you can be counted on to help. While you may not be top-of-mind all the time, when a person in your network hears of a potential opening, you are likely to be recommended. All before anything is even posted. I worked with a group of consultants on a project for a year. We all did pretty well. Then we all left for greener pastures. My pastures werenât so green and during the tech bust in 2001, I got laid off and was looking for work. On one of those layoff days, I got a phone call asking me to submit my resume and set up a time for phone interview. Those nice consultants were working at this company on a project and when a potential opening came up, they recommended me for the position. I got the interview and the job. Or, take this example, where the decision makers were just thinking they needed some help in an area and this person was right there because she got her pre-requisites right and worked with her business network to let her intentions be known. You can argue that the hidden job market is a myth or you can think it all as luck. But as one of my early managers noted with a sign on his desk: Luck belongs to the good players [â¦] tapped into the hidden job market. Build your business network to find out about jobs. And donât be surprised if your perfect [â¦] Reply great advice Reply This is not your ordinary career site. I help the corporate worker who toils away in the company cubicle make career transitions. You want to do your job well, following all the rules â" . The career transitions where I can help you center on three critical career areas: How to land a job, succeed in a job, and build employment security. policies The content on this website is my opinion and will probably not reflect the views of my various employers. Step by step instructions to Stay Competitive For Freelance And Permanent Jobs In this unstable market, with many occupation searchers enduring times of underemployment and by and large joblessness, it's entirely expected to independent when what you truly need is a lasting all day work. In any case, it's a dubious parity. You have to advance yourself as an advisor so as to persistently get work. Be that as it may, you likewise need to tell your system that you'd want to get an all day line of work. This raises numerous inquiries: How would you depict what you doâ"expert or on the move? How would you position your LinkedIn profile? How would you follow both independent and perpetual work without seeming uncertain? How would you deal with your time between searching for counseling employments and a perpetual job? How about we tackle them individually. How would you portray what you do? Concentrate on your exercises and results, instead of a particular title. Regardless of whether you're independent or perpetual isn't as significant as your aptitudes and ability. For instance, rather than saying you're an advertising advisor with Company X, you could discuss your association with standard mail, advanced promoting, new item improvement, or whatever it is you're really doing. At that point you can direct your concentration toward the individual you're talking with and find out about their inclinations and requirements. The best systems administration centers around the other individual, not on pitching for your next thing. You have to comprehend your contacts all around ok to move the conversation toward a path where they'd be capable and ready to be useful. How would you position your LinkedIn profile? At the point when you're talking legitimately with somebody during a meeting, you can tailor your message in any capacity. With LinkedIn, you need to settle on one approach to speak to your work understanding for any individual who occurs on your profile. Do you consider yourself an expert and potentially get ignored by managers who accept that you're not intrigued by all day work? Consider the possibility that you don't have a different business element â" what do you list as the organization name. On the off chance that you list a counseling customer as your Company, is this deceptive since you're not really utilized there? As a selection representative and mentor, I've seen the two kinds of profiles. It is important later in the meeting procedure what the course of action isâ"a planned boss should realize when you're accessible, insights concerning your experience, and so on. In any case, your LinkedIn profile is just an underlying depiction. It's not intended to fill in for a full meeting process. Incorporate data that is exact, and express your objectives. In case you're not effectively counseling, don't state that you are. Furthermore, in case you're for the most part filling in as a specialist yet preferably need to be in-house, unquestionably list your counseling assignments, and furthermore determine in your feature and additionally synopsis that you're available to full-time positions. How would you follow both independent and changeless without seeming uncertain? Independent work is on the ascent, traversing all businesses and levels, so it's progressively basic to discover even long-lasting customary representatives with some counseling stretches. Concentrate on the abilities you're fabricating, the outcomes you're accomplishing, and the aptitude you're picking up. Recount to your story with the goal that your group of work is the center, not the work game plans. Thusly, it's anything but difficult to clarify why you may be outsourcing now yet would consider in-house and lasting chances. In the event that it bodes well for the work, at that point you're available to it. So also, if a counseling venture comes up that is of intrigue, you keep yourself open to that as well. At the point when you make the independent v. changeless choice about the work, it causes you to seem focused on what's best for the business, and that is the dedication the business truly thinks about. How would you deal with your time between searching for counseling occupations and a lasting job? Anyway you choose to situate yourselfâ"in your systems administration presentation, on your LinkedIn profile, in your pitch for what's next for youâ"you have to keep on following chances. In the event that you need a perpetual activity and you can bear the cost of not to work for some time, consider focusing your endeavors on an all day pursuit of employment. On the off chance that an appealing counseling venture emerges, you might need to take itâ"to keep you occupied, expand your system and keep up your abilities. It might likewise prompt a perpetual job. Then again, on the off chance that you have to look for some kind of employment rapidly, commit time to pitching for counseling ventures, which are simpler to get. You would then be able to bring in cash while proceeding with quest for new employment as an afterthought. Simply make a point to designate at any rate 10-15 hours out of each week to your pursuit of employment or your next counseling gig, or, in all likelihood you'l l wind up toward the finish of your counseling task without work.

13 Tips to Make the Most of Your Summer BigLaw Internship
13 Tips to Make the Most of Your Summer BigLaw Internship 13 Tips to Make the Most of Your Summer BigLaw Internship What would i be able to do to ensure I find a new line of work offer toward the finish of the late spring? As the co-head of employing for Dechert's New York office and in my past jobs on the recruiting boards of trustees of two other universal firms, I have been posed this inquiry by graduate school understudies a great deal. And keeping in mind that I generally offer the best response that I can, the inquiry I think approaching summer partners should ask (and which I still can't seem to hear) is the way they can take advantage of their late spring BigLaw entry level positions. Normally, the main target for any late spring partner is to get that offer, yet the best ones understand that these positions bear the cost of them considerably more: an exceptional chance to not just substantiate themselves deserving of a bid for employment yet to become familiar with their picked firm, their picked profession and the conceivable practice regions accessible to them. This is a once in a blue moon opportunity to watch the inward operations of a law office and its different practice gatherings, whic h ought not be missed. The following are a few hints for summer partners to remember as they prepare to begin their BigLaw temporary jobs. As a matter of first importance, recall this is a 8-multi week work interview. As noted over, your primary objective as a late spring partner is to guarantee that you get a bid for employment toward the finish of the mid year program. The most ideal way I have found to do this is to recall that a law office summer temporary position is actually an extremely, long meeting and to maintain this as a main priority. In this manner, as you would in a prospective employee meeting: Dress fittingly consistently. If all else fails, better to embellish or go for the more preservationist decision. Work in additional time so you are rarely late. This implies late for anything, including any gathering, preparing, or firm get-together. Edit and twofold check any composed materials (counting messages) you are turning in or sending, as you would your resume. Be courteous, agreeable, and expert to everybody, including bolster staff, yet recollect the expert part the vast majority of all, as you are business partners and not companions (yet!). Show excitement and intrigue. Keep in mind, the individual you are addressing does this professionally and in all likelihood feels energy for the subject. Attempt to realize what you can about it and build up an intrigue. In the event that you can't assemble up any genuine eagerness, be neighborly and counterfeit it! Get ready and pose savvy inquiries. Prior to meeting with a lawyer to get a task, gaze the individual upward on the inside site and, if agreeable, ask junior partners or your tutor about the lawyer's work region and character. At the point when you get a task, ensure you comprehend what the lawyer is searching for and their planning desires. On the off chance that you don't comprehend or aren't sure, pose inquiries to explain. Keep in mind: this is your fundamental opportunity to watch and gain from real rehearsing lawyers before setting out upon and settling on choices about your vocation. While summer temporary job programs offer law offices the chance to become acquainted with law understudies and comprehend their characters, hard working attitudes, insight, and abilities, summer entry level position programs additionally offer law understudies the chance to become more acquainted with the law office, its way of life, its kin, and its different practice territories. This is the most obvious opportunity a law understudy needs to watch legal counselors at chip away at an everyday premise and increase a comprehension of what the act of law resembles and the distinction between different practice gatherings and sub-specialties.In request to make the most of this chance: Go to all trainings and practice bunch introductions. Graduate school shows you a lot, yet this is your opportunity to find out about what rehearsing lawyers truly do. Focus and you might be astounded by what you realize and what sorts of law wind up fascinating you. Go to every get-together you can. Recollect that work comes first and that you are on an all-inclusive meeting (so demonstrable skill and dignity ought to be kept up even in social settings and get-togethers ought to be skipped if important to fulfill work time constraints), however attempt to go to the same number of the late spring get-togethers as you can. When at the occasions, don't simply remain with the other summer partners. Put forth the attempt to become acquainted with the same number of lawyers as you can. The more individuals at the firm you become more acquainted with, the better sense you will get of the firm and its way of life. This is likewise an incredible casual chance to request more data about the training bunches you might be keen on. On the off chance that conceivable, attempt assignments for various practice bunches in the main portion of the late spring. You may think you recognize what kind of law you need to rehearse, yet keep a receptive outlook. You would be shocked by what number of partners enter a late spring program persuaded they will need nothing however prosecution and wind up picking value-based work or the other way around. In the second 50% of the program, when you have gotten an opportunity to limit your potential advantages, attempt to concentrate all the more eagerly on a couple of gatherings you are generally keen on and do somewhat of a more profound plunge. It won't just give you a more grounded thought of what those gatherings resemble, it will impart a sign to the lawyers in the gatherings that you are really keen on what they do and going along with them. Watch the ways of life, qualities, and characters of the lesser and mid-level partners in the training bunches you are keen on and, if conceivable, those of their customers. Remember your way of life, qualities, and character and be straightforward with yourself. Is the gathering for the most part contained sort A, cordial individuals who travel regularly and work late? Is it for the most part included calm, scholarly individuals with customers who anticipate that them should be in ahead of schedule? Do you love to travel? Is it true that you are a morning individual? Would you be able to see yourself quite a while from now carrying on with the life of these partners and being cheerful? On the off chance that you resemble most graduate school understudies and legal counselors I have met, you are mentally inquisitive and can discover enthusiasm for various sorts of law. Focusing on the way of life and character of partners in a training gathering and focusing on a gathering you can se e yourself normally fitting into will make your opportunity of long haul achievement higher. By remaining proficient all through the mid year and concentrating on learning as much as possible about your firm and the open doors accessible there, you will extraordinarily improve your odds not just of finding a new line of work offer before fall classes start, yet of making sure about a place that you will discover remunerating for a considerable length of time to come. Here's to capitalizing on the late spring! Laura Swihart is an accomplice in Dechert's Finance and Real Estate practice and co-leader of the company's Hiring Committee in New York. Is it Okay to Have a Resume Thats Three Pages or Longer - ZipJob
Is it Okay to Have a Resume Thats Three Pages or Longer - ZipJob One of the most common questions job seekers have is how long a resume should be. While most resumes end up being only a page or two long, someend up being three pages or longer. Those with a lot of experience or information often have trouble getting it down to a page or two. So, is it okay to have a resume thats three pages or longer? It depends but generally no, a resume should almost never be more than two pages long. Why? A hiring manager only skims a resume for a few seconds before deciding to either look into it in more detail or send it to the rejection pile. You want to give them a resume thatâs clean, concise and relevant. There is just no reason to take more than two pages to do that. A long resume will often irritate a hiring manager and that usually kills any chance that they might consider you for a position. When its Acceptable to Have a Resume Longer Than Three Pages There are some fields that require a long resume due to the inclusion of research, publications and detailed projects. Those often involve people in science, medicine, academia and engineering. Even then, itâs advisable to keep your resume at two pages unless you have relevant information the hiring manager would want to see. So how can you cut your resume down to two pages? You need to remove irrelevant and outdated information. Here are some tips to trim your resume down to be more effective. Keep it Relevant One of the most common reasons job seekers have a resume thatâs three pages or longer is the inclusion of irrelevant information. Donât include a whole page on customer service positions you held 15 years ago if youâre applying for an accounting position. One of the keys to writing an effective resume is including information thatâs relevant. Your resume is basically a document that tells the employer why youâre a great match for that particular position â" so make sure thatâs what your resume does. Formatting Your overall format, font and font size could also be a reason your resume goes onto a third page. Keep your font size at 12 and if youâre just going onto a third page, you may want to try another font. Some fonts take up more space so you could try playing around with a few to see what works. We wrote an awesome list on the best fonts to use for your resume you may want to check out. Keep Descriptions Clear and Concise Another reason many go over the recommended resume length is because they include too much information for each position they held. Dont use paragraphs when describing your work experience, use clear and concise bullet points. Its recommended that you use 4-6 bullet points for each position. Old Experience As a general rule, your resume should only contain your work history for the last 10 years. Even if the information is relevant, you dont really want to include positions you held over a decade ago. No Resume Fluff Okay, time to cut out the resume fluff that pisses so many hiring managers off. If youâre including phrases like âhard-workingâ or âteam-playerâ, not only are you taking up valuable resume real estate, youâre probably pissing off the hiring manager. Keep your resume free of annoying buzzwords. When deciding how long your resume should be, keep in mind that the hiring manager will only be looking at it for a few seconds. You want to capture their attention with clear, concise and relevant information. A resume thats3,4 or 5 pages will usually be a turn off to a hiring manager. Good luck with your job search!

5 Undeniable Signs Its Time To Leave Your Job - Kathy Caprino
5 Undeniable Signs Its Time To Leave Your Job Some portion of Kathy Caprinos Series Accessing the Most Powerful You For a long time during my 18-year corporate vocation, I stayed in various jobs I loathed, and a couple of them were an awful fit. Now I see that there were some basic factors that affected my solid protection from roll out the improvements I expected to, including stresses over cash, confidence issues, disarray with regards to what I truly needed, hesitance to begin once again in a new position, and downright dread. Presently, after two rehashes and running my own instructing and counseling firm (and adoring it), obviously in my corporate life I additionally came up short on a basically significant mentality an enterprising way to deal with my work and expert life that would have helped me be progressively deft, adaptable, daring, ingenious, inventive and creative in my endeavors toward building a job that would happily coordinate who I truly am, within. Rather, I remained stuck in my very own tight box creation, since I didn't see how it really functions, to discover jobs we love, be treated with deference and care, to accomplish incredible pay for our work, and flourish in it. My exploration with experts uncovers that there are five glaring signs that you have to change what you're doing â" either by adjusting your particular employment or moving your whole vocation. Unfortunately, such a significant number of experts remain stuck in complete refusal about these signs, since they're simply too terrified to even consider heeding them and take proactive measures, until emergency hits and powers them to think about another heading. The five signs that you should find employment elsewhere or change bearings presently are: #1: You're miserable a large portion of consistently accomplishing this work. This isn't mind science here â" the most clear sign that you need is a change is the means by which you feel about the work you're doing each day. Most of the time, would you say you are feeling troubled, discouraged, defeated, exhausted, misconstrued, abused? Do you feel that the genuine you can't turn out in this activity, and the manner in which you love to work isn't regarded or regarded? Do you wonder how you at any point wound up here, and fantasize day by day about accomplishing something altogether different? Try not to be trying to claim ignorance about your sentiments â" they're guiding you toward an undeniable circumstance that should be managed with. Remember: You don't need to be hopeless or lose your feeling of self so as to be beneficially utilized. #2: the earth is polluted with harmfulness and offensiveness, including your chief and partners. The job you play in your work isn't just about the capacities and errands you play out each day. A vocation â" and your prosperity and euphoria in it is formed by a bunch of different components including: ⢠The character of your chief and partners, and the authority dynamic of the organization (if theres narcissism, youll endure) ⢠How your association treats the entirety of its HR (counting you, yet additionally others) ⢠The results that the organization is heading toward, and whether you regard and bolster these results ⢠The development you can accomplish in this job (is it exhausting, stale, and stifling to you?) ⢠The communitarian soul and positive, development initiating practices (or complete absence of them) ⢠How well your predominant activity style is suited to the activity approach your organization and supervisor requests of you ⢠And at long last, if the force holes you have are initiated â" which means, if this activity causes you to feel feeble and deceived Taking a gander at your specific employment â" and seeing all the components of it â" will assist you with seeing all the more obviously in the event that you are directly for this job, or in case you're progressively fit to flourish in another activity or sort of work experience by and large. #3: The aptitudes that you've been recruited to use for this activity are anything but a fit for what you're acceptable at or appreciate. So frequently, individuals don't get that the aptitudes that you have are not in any way equivalent to the normal gifts and capacities that you appreciate utilizing every day. As it were, you might be incredible at refreshing spreadsheets (or administering ventures, or doing occasion arranging) yet in all actuality, you may really detest doing it. What we're acceptable at isn't equivalent to what we love doing. On the off chance that your activity constrains you to utilize abilities that aren't charming or simple for you, you'll be hopeless and depleted each day in your activity. Furthermore, you'll feel like an impostor a great part of the time. #4: You accept where it counts that you're intended for better, greater, and all the more exciting things. I've talked with several effective vocation changers, and a large number of them have imparted to me some adaptation of this: I had this horrendous, annoying inclination for a considerable length of time that I was made for preferable things over this, but I simply didn't follow up on that feeling until I at long last snapped and state YES! to myself. Numerous individuals, especially ladies, feel embarrassed and humiliated to concede that, where it counts, they believe they are made for preferred things over their present job. They're apprehensive this sounds proud or presumptuous to think these kinds of contemplations. In any case, these considerations and emotions are not something to overlook â" they're highlighting the way that there is another heading sitting tight for you, one that will bring more happiness, achievement, prize, acknowledgment and fulfillment to your life. On the off chance that you feel you're made for additionally energizing things, at that point you are. Try not to be embarrassed about it or escape it. #5: The results that you're progressing in the direction of feel good for nothing or negative to you. At last, what is your opinion about the results that your activity bolsters? Do you love what you're taking a shot at and do you feel it has contributive incentive on the planet? Do you have confidence in the positive great of what you're doing, and that what you're burning through your valuable life effort on is to be sure justified, despite all the trouble? Or on the other hand do you feel that what your organization is doing is in reality off-base, untrustworthy, superfluous or even destructive on the planet? You can't flourish or even succeed a little piece on the off chance that you don't have confidence in what your association is putting out on the planet or how they're doing it. You basically will fail in the event that you subliminally contradict what your manager rely on the planet. In the event that any of these signs hit home for you, it's a great opportunity to roll out an improvement. Presently. The key inquiry isn't Will you? yet When will you at long last respect what you know to be valid about yourself? What is it like to buy a mattress over the internet
What is it like to buy a mattress over the internet E-commerce is a billion-dollar industry and its increasing popularity has created a win-win situation for both the seller and the buyer. Today, we have everything available online and bed mattress is no exception. A mattress is not something that we purchase every week or month. More often than not, customers buy a mattress with one-time purchase mindset, and its easy to see why they go the whole hog when it comes to choosing the right one for their bedroom or commercial use. While there are many pros of buying a mattress online, on the flip side, one simply cannot ignore the cons as well. This article will walk you through some pros and cons of buying a mattress in Gold Coast or elsewhere online, so that you have necessary information to make an informed choice. Pros Convenience Buying a mattress or anything else online is highly convenient. The buyer does not have to leave the comfort of his/her home to shop around for mattresses. All it takes is a few clicks to compare prices with different sellers and place the order then and there. Most sellers offer Cash on Delivery option, too, to ensure customers peace of mind and winning more prospective buyers over to their services. Variety When you decide to shop online, you have simultaneous access to various online stores, which implies extensive variety at your disposal. You may sift through various categories or sort the selection by size, design or price. This makes your shopping experience quick and there are bright chances of you finding the best match. Best Offers Its a fact universally acknowledged that best deals and offers are only found on the internet. No brick and mortar store has enough profit margin to sell their products at a cheaper price unless its a stock clearance or the store is being dissolved. Further, if you buy a mattress during festive season, you are more likely to avail of heavy discounts. Delivery Assistance When you buy a mattress online from a reputed store, you need not pay extra towards shipping cost. The service provider will take care of it. This means that you are saved from the hassle of transporting the mattress from the store to your home. There are limitless benefits of buying a mattress online; however, its not possible to cover all of them in this article. So, lets now take a look at cons of buying a mattress online. Cons Limited Access to the Commodity When you shop online, you have mere visual access to the commodity. This is a major setback when buying a mattress, because your decision of choosing a mattress greatly depends on the feel you get by touching it. Also, the visual access that you may have is also restricted to what seller wants you to see. This is the main reason why only sellers of high-quality mattress in Gold Coast have managed to grow and win their customers trust by offering what they promise. Obviously, a reputation once built reaps eternal benefits. As long as you have a reliable online seller at your disposal, you should only focus on the pros and let others, who are dealing with a shady supplier, think about the cons. Buying a mattress online is a true delight for busy professionals. Free your spine and choose the easy way: the beauty of online shopping lies in the convenience of placing order while at work, travelling or lying on a couch within the confines of your home. All you need is an internet-enabled device and a clear vision of what you want. Image credits. Main. Mattress.

Getting a job in Government and Politics
Getting a job in Government and Politics So youâre able, youâve got a list of experience as long as a freight train and a genuine interest in the sector. But you know that getting in is not going to be easy. Speakers at the recent âGetting into Government and Politicsâ sector event run by Student Careers and Skills at the University of Warwick mentioned some common pitfalls â" so by reading this blog, youâll be more likely to avoid them and to improve your chances of getting in. Common Pitfalls: You give up at the first disappointment You donât really know how you fit in You have insufficient experience, or canât explain why your experience is relevant Your cover letter sounds like a robot wrote it You give up at the first disappointment Finding out that youâre not considered good enough for something is, for most of us, pretty horrible. But the big graduate schemes in this area, such as the Civil Service Fast Stream or National Graduate Development Programme for Local Government, keep no record of failed applications. In fact they are typically very positive about people who have done other things between graduation and applying (again). So donât give up if you fail the first time â" youâll have more experience the next time and your next application could well be stronger. Many smaller organisations have more students interested in internships or entry level positions than the number of positions, so being sanguine about organisations saying ânoâ (or not responding at all) will help you to keep going until you get a âyesâ (or even a hopeful-sounding âmaybeâ). You donât really know how you fit in Are you a party animal, ready to toe the line of your chosen political party through thick and thin, willing to take responsibility for making the decisions, and prepared to work extremely hard to get noticed or even elected? Or are you more interested in being involved dispassionately in the political process, and prepared to work hard to make government policy work even if you arenât always entirely personally convinced itâs a good idea? Or do you want to be involved in the political process because you have a burning desire to have a positive impact on a specific issue such as gender equality, human rights, environmental protection or social justice? If you know which of these questions you can provide the most convincing answer for (or most want to give a convincing answer to in the future) then you will be developing relevant experience. You will be more likely to be able to promote your experience in a way that makes sense to the organisation you are hoping to work for . You have insufficient experience, or canât explain why your experience is relevant Youâre unlikely to get paid work in a political party if no-one has ever seen you doing the unglamorous jobs like knocking on doors at election time, or be considered by a think tank or pressure group if they can see no evidence of previous involvement with the topics or issues on which they focus. Staff profiles on organisation websites and biographies on Linked In can help to identify what sort of skills and experience would help you to get in. Some of the larger graduate schemes donât mind about the context in which you developed the skills they need. But they are very clear about which skills or competencies they are looking for, and their expectation to see specific examples of where you have used them. So if you know what skills your favoured employers need, you can either be confident in examples from your previous experience, or think about ways to develop what they are looking for. Your cover letter sounds like a robot wrote it Of course relevant experience is vital. Of course a strong academic record will help enormously. If you can also find a way during the application process to convey genuine enthusiasm and give a real flavour of your personality, you are more likely to attract an employerâs interest. So. Know how you fit in, be tenacious and persistent. Develop your experience and understand what is important about it and let something of your personality shine through in your applications. And good luck!

Life Hacks For Body, Diet And Mental Health This Summer -
Life Hacks For Body, Diet And Mental Health This Summer - The sun is up, the sky is blue, itâs beautiful and so are you The onset of summer is a hopeful time of year, full of promise and vitamin D-powered energy spikes. Itâs the perfect time to pick up a new hobby and kick that harmful habit. The best part? You donât need to upheave your entire schedule to get in on the action. Want to be fitter, healthier and happier? Join the club and implement these easy life hacks this summer. Check out these life hacks for a healthier body and mind. Life Hacks For A Healthier You The body Kick the gym Thatâs right. Unless you have the cash to burn and a serious erg addiction, exercising at the gym should be considered a second-class session. Instead of paying your June membership, consider hitting the streets or your living room floor instead. Youâll burn more calories pounding pavement that you would on the treadmill, and suffer fewer injuries doing push-ups at home than working the weight machines. Plus, your purse will thank you. A pound for every pound Need some extra incentive to follow your exercise regime? Put a pound, dollar or euro (because I donât know where youâre reading this from!) in a jar for every successful workout you complete. When the jar is full, use it to buy yourself a treat â" whether thatâs a new dress or a particular video game youâve been hankering after. Peacock power Still rocking those old workout togs your mum bought you back in 2010? Do yourself a favour: invest in some comfy kit thatâll make you feel as good as you look. If you canât wait to put your workoutfit on each morning, youâre that much more likely to actually get your sweat on too. The diet Fresh start Every morning, before breakfast and after youâve struggled out of bed to your alarm, down a glass of lukewarm water mixed with lime or lemon juice. As well as kick-starting your metabolism, this tasty concoction will help purify your liver, improve digestion, boost your immune system and lower blood pressure. Itâs also a great source of potassium, calcium and magnesium. For extra pluses, add cayenne pepper, organic apple-cider vinegar, cinnamon and/or ground ginger. Hot stuff! Get chili with it Getting creative in the kitchen? Add chili or ginger to sauces. Research shows that the capsaicinoids found in chili peppers boost energy expenditure by up to 50 kcal a day. Remember: it all adds up. Ginger, meanwhile, has been proven to reduce muscle soreness by a quarter when consumed. What a relief! Get wet Well, not really. But staying hydrated is important. Without water, humans can survive a maximum of three days; even mild dehydration causes symptoms of fatigue, headache and low mood, while more chronic cases can cause digestive issues and weight gain. Still canât get those two litres in? Get yourself a large bottle and ist it on your desk. Consume one through the mornig and one through the afternoon. Voila! You are sufficiently bathroom-bound to function as a human should. The mind Stay no to the snooze Love a weekend lie-in? Do your brain a favour and try to rise at the same time throughout the week, whether itâs Monday or Sunday. Getting too much sleep can be as bad as too little, and will make most people sluggish for the rest of the day. Do the sensible thing and keep training your body for that 7 AM alarm. Drop the deadweight No, Iâm not talking about that extra inch around your waist. A natural side-effect of growing up in the narrowing of your friendship circle. You have too many responsibilities â" to family, to partners, to friends and to work â" to burn time on those unworthy of it. Make sure the people you give up time for are worth the spend. Drop the moaners, the drainers, the slackers and uncarers. Surround yourself with real friends and reap real rewards. The five-year plan It cvan be easy to fret and stress over every little thing. Next time something gets to you, sit back and ask yourself this simple question: âWill I be worried about this in five yearsâ time?â If the answer is ânoâ, check your response. Short-term annoyances are two-a-penny in life; learning to differentiate between what is a real concern and what a fleeting distraction is key to your mental happiness. Whether itâs your fitness, diet or thought patterns that need a little TLC, looking after yourself should be at the top of your agenda for the coming months. Implement the above quick-fixes and youâll be well on the way to a healthier, happier you.
